Universal Life Insurance in Denton

A universal life policy can stay in force for the rest of your life, and you can change what you pay in and how much it pays out as circumstances shift. We put the funding level, internal charges and guarantees on paper before you sign anything.

Lifelong coverage that adjusts as you do

Universal life pairs protection for your beneficiaries that lasts your whole life with an account that holds cash value. Each month the insurer takes out a cost of insurance charge and policy fees, then adds interest to what remains. Paying more grows the cash value. Paying less lets the account make up the difference, provided it holds enough.

That flexibility is both the benefit and the danger. Insurance charges go up each year you age, so paying just the minimum premium at 45 can drain the account by your seventies. We show the premium needed to keep coverage in force to the age you pick, and what happens if you pay less than that.

Our clients live in Denton and close-by towns like Corinth, Argyle and Lake Dallas. Each quote arrives as a written illustration you can go through on your own schedule, and we explain the guaranteed and non-guaranteed columns one line at a time.

What we cover when we set up a policy

  1. 01

    A needs review first

We start with who depends on you, what debts or estate costs would remain, and how long the coverage should last. The face amount comes from those numbers, not from a round figure.

  2. 02

    Guaranteed or current-assumption design

Some universal life policies carry a no-lapse guarantee to a set age. Others rely on credited interest and offer more cash value growth. We explain the trade-off and prepare the version that fits your goal.

  3. 03

    A written illustration

You receive the insurer's illustration showing premiums, charges and cash value year by year. We mark which figures the contract guarantees and which depend on future interest rates.

  4. 04

    Beneficiary and rider choices

We go through primary and contingent beneficiary designations and any riders worth considering, such as a waiver of premium or an accelerated benefit for chronic illness. Each rider's cost is shown separately.

  5. 05

Reviews of policies you already own

If you hold an older universal life policy, we can request an in-force illustration and tell you plainly whether it is on track, underfunded or worth restructuring.

Signs universal life fits your situation

  • Term coverage that runs out too soon

A term life policy that expires at 65 may leave a spouse or an estate exposed. Universal life can keep coverage going well beyond that age.

  • You want permanent coverage that costs less than whole life

Because a guaranteed design builds only modest cash value, its premium for the same death benefit usually comes in below whole life. For many clients, lifelong coverage at that lower cost is exactly the goal.

  • Your income moves from year to year

Business owners and commission earners sometimes prefer a policy where a strong year can prefund a lean one. Universal life allows that within limits.

  • Your annual statement shows a projected lapse

Older policies bought when interest rates were higher may now be heading toward lapse. That warning deserves attention while there is still time to adjust funding.

  • You need coverage for a specific later-life cost

Estate taxes, a buy-sell agreement or leaving a set sum to a beneficiary can all call for coverage that lasts as long as you do.

How we put a universal life policy in place

  1. 1

    An initial phone call

We go over what you want the coverage to do, your general health and any policies you already own. The call runs around thirty minutes and does not obligate you.

  2. 2

    Illustrations compared in writing

We send illustrations for more than one design or funding level, then go through them with you so every column is clear.

  3. 3

    Application and underwriting

Once you choose a design, we complete the forms with you. Based on your age and the face amount, the insurer may ask for a paramedical exam, lab work or medical records, and we let you know which ahead of time.

  4. 4

    Delivery and a last review

After the policy is issued, we check it against the illustration you signed off on and confirm the beneficiaries and premium schedule. We also point out the free-look window, the brief period after delivery when you can still cancel and get your premium back.

What shapes the premium

Universal life has no single price because you help set the funding level. Your written quote lists each factor below and how it affects the number, so nothing new appears at signing.

Age and rating class
The insurer reviews your medical history, height and weight, and current medications, then assigns you a class that sets your charges. Tobacco use moves the premium more than almost anything else.
Face amount
A larger death benefit raises the cost of insurance charge every month the policy is in force.
How long the guarantee runs
Guaranteeing coverage only to age 90 is cheaper than guaranteeing it to 105 or 121. We price both lengths so you can weigh what the extra years are worth to you.
Funding beyond the minimum
Paying above the target premium builds cash value and cushions against lower credited rates. Paying only the minimum keeps cost down today but leaves less margin later.
Riders
Each optional rider carries its own charge, listed separately on your illustration so you can keep or drop it.

Common universal life questions

What sets universal life apart from whole life?

Whole life locks the premium in permanently and grows cash value on a contract-guaranteed schedule. Universal life lets you change the premium and death benefit, and its cash value tracks the interest the insurer credits. You trade some certainty for flexibility, and frequently a lower premium. Our whole life insurance page explains the other side.

Am I allowed to miss a premium?

Yes, as long as the account has enough to cover that month's insurance charges and fees. If the balance is used up, the policy can lapse. We show you in writing how much cushion your funding level gives you before you count on it.

What if interest rates drop?

With a current-assumption policy, lower credited rates slow the growth of cash value and can mean higher premiums later to keep the coverage. A policy with a no-lapse guarantee stays in force to the guaranteed age as long as the required premiums are paid on schedule.

Will you review an older universal life policy I own?

Yes. We request an in-force illustration from the insurer at your current premium and walk you through it. A small premium increase sometimes solves the issue, and other times a different policy is the better move.

Is a medical exam part of applying?

That comes down to your age and the coverage amount. Smaller policies for younger applicants can be approved on questions and records only. We tell you what the insurer will need before you apply.

Could I convert my term policy instead?

Plenty of term policies offer conversion to permanent coverage without new health questions. If yours does, we put the conversion next to a fresh universal life application so you can see which is cheaper.
